Services, directions, and what to expect on your first visit to Family Church

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Due to burst pipes, our auditorium was flooded just after Christmas. As we work to repair the damage over the next several weeks, we have temporarily moved our Sunday church services to our Eastview Community Center location, at 4101 E. 42nd Street. We invite you to join us there!

All other regular activities at the Family Church building will be moved, rescheduled, or are cancelled until further notice. Please watch our Church Life page for updates!

Our Family Church Offices are still open as usual, M-F 9am-1pm.

Getting to know each other

We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating, and going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at Family Church a great one!

Our Sunday Service begins at 10:30 AM. Come a little early to visit and grab a cup of coffee!

We also have a Sunday morning Adult Bible Class in our Fellowship Hall at 9:30 AM for those interested. We do not currently offer Nursery or Kids classes during the Bible Class hour, this is an adult-only option, though you are welcome to bring older children to the class with you!

Online Service

For those who aren't able to attend in person, we broadcast a Live Stream of our Sunday Service 10:30 AM. You can ATTEND ONLINE HERE. Chat is available, so do drop in early and let us know you're here! We also display announcement slides before the service begins, so you don't miss out on what's going on at Family Church!

Family Church is located on the corner of University Avenue and NE 64th Street in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

What can I expect?

Our Covid-19 Response

Currently we are asking our attenders to use their own discretion regarding the use of masks in the building. Many are still uncomfortable or could be considered at-risk, so please be considerate and cautious regarding this freedom. Be careful to maintain social distance from those who have chosen to wear a mask, unless they indicate otherwise. As we have asked throughout the pandemic, always be sensitive to the needs of those around you. We will continue to work to create safe spacing in the building and practice enhanced cleaning procedures. Above all else, we will continue to pray for health and protection for all who enter here and for a spirit of joy and love to prevail in all that we do. We will continue to monitor the crisis and make appropriate changes if necessary.

We use individually packaged supplies for Communion, and we provide an offering box to collect contributions, in order to support a safer contact-free gathering. Our hospitality committee serves coffee, tea, and individually wrapped breakfast bars, or feel free to bring your own drinks or snacks.

Please keep in mind that our decisions moving forward will be based on what we deem to be safe, responsible, wise, and loving. This is not simply an issue of religious liberty, but one of public health, our ongoing witness in the community, and showing consideration and love to those around us.

Despite the many varying opinions on issues related to this crisis, our church family has demonstrated an amazing spirit of love and unity! Today there seems to be a little light at the end of the tunnel. Let's press on with that attitude! Thank you for being understanding. Thank you for choosing to extend friendship and grace to one another!

What's the culture like at Family Church?

Services at Southeast Polk Family Church are pretty relaxed and informal. Dress is generally casual and the conversation is warm and engaging. It's kind of like your typical family get-together! Expect to be greeted at the door where you will receive a friendly smile and a warm welcome. We will have the coffee ready and waiting for you! We are a family that loves and cares for each other, and we enjoy spending time together. Come as you are and expect to feel welcomed as our guest.

How long is a service?

In total, a Family Church service is approximately 60-75 minutes in length. Services begin with the Family Church band leading the church in music - song lyrics are projected onto the screens so you can sing along and/or engage with worship however you feel most comfortable. Our service consists of a time of praise through music, prayer and sharing upcoming activities, then one of our pastors will share an encouraging and hope-filled message about Jesus. We take communion together the first Sunday of each month.

What about my kids?

We believe that kids should have a blast at church every single week - and at Family Church, we make this a priority.

In response to the various needs of our members, visitors, and community, we have options available for all families according to their level of comfort. Our Nursery and Kids Church programs are available during the message portion of each Sunday service. The Nursery is available for infants and toddlers 0-35 months. The Kids Table us available for kids age 3 through Grade 5. Both can be found in the Fellowship wing, and our greeters will be happy to direct you! Your kids will remain with your during the first half of the services, then you will be dismissed to escort your kids to Children's Church at the appropriate time.

We also provide "Family Tables" in the service, where parents and kids can sit together as a family, with activity bags provided to keep your children engaged each Sunday morning for those who prefer to keep their children with them during the service.

The other thing we make a priority is your children’s safety. Because of that, we have a secure check-in process for our Kids (0-5th Grade) program. To help make your initial experience quick and secure, please plan a few minutes extra to fill out our Kids Ministry registration form. You will be asked to show an ID when you pick up your children for the first week only. After that, the secure printed nametag-based process is fast and easy! Check-in can be done at the booth in the fellowship wing before the service begins, or when you bring your kids back to Children's Church.
