Plan A Visit

Services, directions, Covid-19 information, and what to expect on your first visit to Family Church

Getting to know each other

We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating, and going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at Family Church a great one!

Our Sunday Service begins at 10:30 AM. Come a little early to visit and grab a cup of coffee and refreshments!

We also have a Sunday morning Adult Bible Class in our Fellowship all at 9:30 AM for those interested. We have not yet resumed any Children's ministry on site, so for now this is an adult-only option. We will be following social distancing guidelines and require that masks be word when not seated.

Online Service

For those who aren't able to attend in person, we broadcast a Live Stream of our Sunday Service 10:30 AM. You can ATTEND ONLINE HERE. Group chat begins at 10 AM, so drop in early for some fellowship. We also display announcement slides 5 minutes before the service begins, so you don't miss out on what's going on at Family Church!

Family Church is located on the corner of University Avenue and NE 64th Street in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

What can I expect?

Our Covid-19 Response

Family Church resumed on-site services on Sunday, June 14th, following all applicable health guidelines in force at that time. We are working diligently to provide a safe experience for everyone, which includes deep cleaning, limiting capacity, spacing out seating, and continuing to offer online services. We also strongly encourage those of our church family who are over 60, or who have underlying health issues, to continue to remain at home if your health is a concern. You can always join with us online as we live stream our services. And of course, if you have any reason to believe you may have been exposed to the virus, have any symptoms, or simply feel unwell, remain at home!

As we strive to meet again in-person, keeping our families safe necessitates limitations to our regular activities. There will be no Kids Sunday School until further notice, and we will not provide Nursery or Kid's Church during the Sunday service. The mid-week Student Ministry is currently on break, and will most likely resume online in the near future.

We use individually packaged supplies for Communion, and we provide an offering box to collect contributions, in order to support a safer contact-free gathering. Our hospitality committee serves coffee and tea in the fellowship area before the beginning of the service, or feel free to bring your own drinks or snacks.

We are currently asking that everyone attending on-site services wear a mask. We will have disposable masks available when you enter the building, but encourage you to bring your own as they are likely more comfortable!

Please keep in mind that our decisions moving forward will be based on what we deem to be safe, responsible, wise, and loving. This is not simply an issue of religious liberty, but one of public health, our ongoing witness in the community, and showing consideration and love to those around us.

Despite the many varying opinions on issues related to this crisis, our church family has demonstrated an amazing spirit of love and unity! Today there seems to be a little light at the end of the tunnel. Let's press on with that attitude! Thank you for being understanding. Thank you for choosing to extend friendship and grace to one another!

What's the culture like at Family Church?

Services at Southeast Polk Family Church are pretty relaxed and informal. Dress is generally casual and the conversation is warm and engaging. It's kind of like your typical family get-together! Expect to be greeted at the door where you will receive a friendly smile and a warm welcome. We will have the coffee ready and waiting for you! We are a family that loves and cares for each other, and we enjoy spending time together. Come as you are and expect to feel welcomed as our guest.

How long is a service?

In total, a Family Church service is approximately 60-75 minutes in length. Services begin with the Family Church band leading the church in music - song lyrics are projected onto the screens so you can sing along and/or engage with worship however you feel most comfortable. Our service consists of a time of praise through music, prayer and sharing upcoming activities, then one of our pastors will share an encouraging and hope-filled message about Jesus. We take communion together the first Sunday of each month.

What about my kids?

At this time, as we navigate and respond to the various concerns of our members, visitors, and community, all Children's programs are on hold until further notice, as guidance is issued regarding how best to structure safe learning environments for our kids and volunteers. Continue to watch this section and our Kids and Youth Ministry page for details as we move forward.

With that said, we believe that kids should have a blast at church every single week - and at Family Church, we make this a priority. Currently we provide "Family Tables" in the service, where parents and kids can sit together as a family, with activity bags provided to keep your children engaged each Sunday morning.

As we anticipate returning to normal activities in the future, Kid's church will eventually be revived during the sermon portion of every Family Church service for kids ages infant through Grade 5. Parents will walk their kids to Kid's church and check them in at the appropriate time.

The other thing we make a priority is your children’s safety. Because of that, we have a secure check-in process for our Kids (0-5th Grade) program. Once we begin offering Sunday School and Kid's church again, you’ll want to leave yourself an extra ten minutes to get your kids signed in your first visit. After that, the check-in process is fast and easy! Check-in can be done at any time before or during Sunday School or the service at the kiosk in the fellowship wing.
