Eastview Food Pantry
Help serve your community through our DMARC food pantry at Eastview Community Center.
The Eastview food pantry is a collaboration between Eastview Community Center and DMARC. The services are available to everyone regardless of income level. IDs are preferred but not required. If you don't have an ID, a limited amount of food is available. Drivers license, Passports, and state ID’s are accepted for adults. Medical Cards or School ID’s work for children.
The hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 2 pm - 5 pm, Thursday 10 AM - Noon, and Friday 10 am - 2 pm. We do follow the Des Moines Public Schools severe weather schedule. The pantry will close on days that the schools close.
We recognize the need for food assistance is great and desire to help as much as possible. The food pantry offers a limited variety of meat, dairy, canned goods, cereal, and staples based on household size. There is a limited amount of personal items available as well. We encourage those who need assistance to come once a month for the pantry items.
We also have weekly food items available. These include bread, produce, bakery, and personal items. An individual or family may take advantage of these once a week. All food pantry items are subject to donations and availability.
Our pantry is a drive up pantry. No need for you to get out of your vehicle. Please use the SOUTH entrance (near Evangel Chapel church) and drive around to the Porter’s Hardware side of the building. When you arrive please stay in your car and honk your horn to let us know you are there. Those coming for their monthly food pantry visit will be given a sheet of food choices for the month to fill out. We want you to have a choice for what you receive. Those coming for the weekly items will receive a pre-packed order.
Operation Christmas Child
Learn about Family Church's role in this international ministry of compassion
Operation Christmas Child is an international ministry that distributes donated shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to children around the world. Since 1993, more than 232 million children in more than 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoe box. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love. Tens of thousands of volunteers from local churches around the world partner to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ at festive outreach events where children are surprised with these shoe box gifts. Many of the recipients also participate in a 12-lesson discipleship program The Greatest Journey. Through the program, ministry partners are able to establish long-term, caring relationships with children and families, sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
Family Church has served as an Operation Christmas Child Drop-Off Location for over 15 years. Not only do our various ministries and individual members collectively fill and donate well over 100 boxes each year, but our team of volunteers receive, sort, pack up and deliver boxes from the surrounding community to a processing center for final shipping. This beloved annual Family Church commitment requires a lot of planning, hard work and dedication, and they love serving in this ministry!
The week of November 17-24, 2025, 24 Family Church volunteers worked a total of 158 hours. In addition, 151 shoe boxes were filled and donated by Family Church! We processed a total of 3962 shoeboxes during the 2025 collection week, which beat the previous year's record by 300 boxes!
